Having a dentist with 20 years experience doesn't always certify great work, but in most cases, if a dentist has been practicing dental care for 20 years you can bet he's learned the ropes.

In order for a dentist to specialize in a particular procedure he must extend his schooling by at least two years. This is important to you if you need to have special dental work done or if you need a sedation dentist.
Lastly, before making an appointment you should ask your newly appointed dentist which insurance carriers he works with. If your dentist doesn't work with your dental insurance company, there maybe away to work around it if you talk to your dentist before getting any work done.

I also interviewed three (Greenville, SC) dentists near our neighborhood to get some insights about the latest technology used in dental procedures these days. It's interesting that one of them, the dental clinic owner, has served the AirForce for two years. I think one of the things to consider here is that, a patient should be really comfortable with his or tooth doctor.
