The STA or Single Tooth Anesthesia Procedure

The STA or Single Tooth Anesthesia Procedure

The STA system only lets a certain amount of anesthesia go through while you are having your dental process, promising that there won't be any pain felt from the stick of the needle or the dentist working on your mouth. Only the location that dental work has to be done on is numbed.

The needle used for STA does not look like a typical syringe. The needle looks like a wand or pen with a tiny needle on the end and, being much smaller than the traditional dental needles, it does not cause the numbness and drooling that you have come to expect after having dental work done.

What are the advantages? Because your face is not totally numbed, you don't have to wait for hours for the effects of the anesthetic to wear off after your dental visit. You will be able to drink and speak normally, and your face will not look disfigured.

Numerous patients have gone through terrible experiences with dental needles. Since the STA system is controlled by a computer and released automatically, you won't feel like a bee has stung you. This anesthesia is given to you depending on how much pain you can stand - without using the hated dental syringe.

You will notice no pain because the computerized system gives an initial little spray to numb the gum and then slowly emits small doses of anesthesia.

STA needles don't resemble syringes. The needle is much smaller than the usual needles used by dentists; it looks kind of like a wand or pen with a tiny needle on the end. It does not cause the usual numbness and drooling that normally occurs when dental work is done.

How this impacts you: Since your whole face will not be numb after your dental visit, you won't have to wait long before you can speak or drink something without drooling, nor will you have a fat lip and lopsided face!

Negative experiences with dental injections are a thing of the past, since the STA system uses a computer controlled, automatic system to release anesthesia and avoid that pinching effect. Without using a syringe, these doses of anesthesia are administered below your threshold of pain.

STA or Single Tooth Anesthesia

Our dental practice Bonita Del Rey Dental has recently purchased latest in anesthetic technology at our San Diego Dental Office.
The Single Tooth Anesthesia System (STA) allows Dr Espinosa to dispense precisely a small amount anesthesia to a single tooth, there’s no waiting around for the side of the face to go numb.
The STA numbs just the tooth that’s being worked on, and works within one or two minutes. The Single Tooth Anesthesia System releases more anesthetic at set intervals during the entire dental procedure to ensure the patient does not feel any pain at all.

I went to the dentist last week; I was dreading it, as I hate the numb face that’s always the result of having dental work done. Dr Aldo surprised me with a new toy he has that only numbs the tooth just a single tooth. It is cool. It is called a STA or Single Tooth Anesthesia. This new anesthesia works instantly, and wares off quickly… I could go out to an unplanned for lunch straight after getting out of the dentist chair, I could eat, have a glass of wine and talk to my friends without being bothered by a numb face for hours afterwards.

Syringe Free at Chula Vista

If there is one place many of us dread to go, it is the dentist's chair. The sight of a large syringe being injected into tender gums can bring tears to the eyes of even the most red-blooded person. Fears about the dreaded needle, as well as the sight and sound of the high-pitched drill are enough for many to avoid the dentist until we are in considerable pain ourselves. Recent advances in dentistry, however, along with age old relaxation techniques have gone a long way toward riding people of their needle phobia with the result that many patients are now leaving dental clinics without little or pain whatsoever.

Interview with a Dentist

Traumatized children become traumatized adults. When it comes to dentists most of us tend to skirt around our yearly visits out of fear of the drill. With today's technology, there is no longer a reason to be afraid of your dentist. In fact, after seeing your dentist, you should have every reason to hug him when you exit his office with a beautiful smile as most procedures a nearly pain free. The first step to a pain free dental visit is choosing a great dentist.
Where to Look
All dentists are not created equally! When choosing a new dentist, is very important to choose wisely so you can avoid pain and possible embarrassment in the future.
The best place to look for a new dentist in your local area is by visiting online dental review sites. These sites allow people from all over the country to rate, vent, or praise their dentist. This is a very good way to start off in the right direction.
Another great way to locate good dentists is by asking people you know who their dentist is. Since your friends and family like you, they will more than likely not send you to a disastrous dentist.
Interviewing Your New Dentist
Now that you know where to look for a new dentist, there are a few questions to ask him before he ever gets his drill out. You wouldn't hire a contractor to build your house without knowing how he conducts business or how he works right? You should also not hire a dentist just because his door says "dental office."
The first question I always ask a new dentist is, "how long have you been in practice?" This is always a good place to start. Having a dentist with 20 years experience doesn't always certify great work, but in most cases, if a dentist has been practicing dental care for 20 years you can bet he's learned the ropes.
Another important question to ask your new dentist is what procedures he specializes in? In order for a dentist to specialize in a particular procedure he must extend his schooling by at least two years. This is important to you if you need to have special dental work done or if you need a sedation dentist.
Lastly, before making an appointment you should ask your newly appointed dentist which insurance carriers he works with. If your dentist doesn't work with your dental insurance company, there maybe away to work around it if you talk to your dentist before getting any work done.
The above questions are the very basic questions to ask your new dentist. As with any other person or company you hire, do some research and find out who you fit with the best. The key to a pain free smile is open communication and honesty with your dentist.

Painless Fillings Are Possible With Laser

Do you dread visiting the dentist? Do you cringe when you hear that horrible high pitched sound of the drill? A lot of people don't have regular dentist check ups because they are frightened of the pain from having fillings or other procedures. The problem here is that without regular check up and cleans your dental health only worsens, meaning you simply need more work done when you do actually go see your dentist; this means more money and more pain.
Did you know that you can have fillings done without a drill? This practically eliminates the pain of visiting the dentist. This has been made possible through advances in dentistry which have led to the development of a laser which replaces the drill in filling work.
When you have a regular filling, the plaque and decay is scraped away using a drill. This is what causes the pain. After it has been removed the dentist fills the gap with a suitable filling. This stops the process of decay in the tooth and reduced the chances of future damage to the tooth. In laser fillings, the laser replaces the drill and is used to cut away any part of the tooth which is damaged. Then, just as in a regular filling, the hole made in the tooth is filled by the dentist. Lasers are much more accurate than regular dentist drills. Drills sometimes can take out healthy parts of the tooth, or even cause further damage or cracks to the tooth. A laser is incredibly accurate and will only remove the parts of the tooth which are damaged.
The laser is able to focus on damaged parts of the tooth by detecting decay. These parts of the tooth have more water than normal, and the laser is able to measure this. The laser also kills bacteria, which means the healthy tooth is sterilized and protected from further decay.
The other great thing about laser fillings is that most people do not require local anesthetic to have the procedure done. This means you don't have to walk around unable to feel your mouth for an afternoon afterward. It also makes your recovery time faster. If you have a sensitive mouth your dentist may recommend to have the local anesthetic anyhow.
A laser filling takes around the same amount of time as a regular filling and the procedure is done in the chair. If you need to have multiple fillings done, you will not need to book in several visits to the dentist, they can all be done on the same day. Not only does this save you time and money but also stress. There is nothing worse than anticipating your next painful visit to the dentist's chair.
Not all dentists' offer laser fillings; you will need to see a specialist. As this is a new technology not everybody is able to offer it. If you find yourself putting off dentist visits because of the pain involved, this is definitely an option you should consider.

Pain Free Dental Anesthesia, Not Pain Dentistry

Dentistry has come a long way - if you lived in the early 19th century, a toothache would have you at the town barber shop, waiting for the barber to finish cutting hair so he could pull your tooth! Over the years, there were great advances in infection control, dental techniques and patient comfort, with the discovery of fluoride, more effective anesthesia, and the use of X-rays to pinpoint decay and injury.
Orthodontics
Remember the days of bulky, metallic, train-track braces? Those days are gone - now, metallic braces have largely been replaced by much more lightweight models. Porcelain, or ceramic, braces are often worn by adults wanting to straighten their teeth, as they are barely noticeable. Today, a large number of patients are opting for Invisalign braces. Invisalign braces straighten your teeth with clear, removable aligners over time and are nearly invisible.
Laser Dentistry
Lasers distribute energy in the form of light, and depending on the procedure, the light energy is delivered at various wavelengths to the area being treated. Those areas may be enamel, gum tissue or decay, or laser dentistry may be used to enhance whitening. Laser dentistry can also help patients relax - lasers don't make the dreaded drill sound. Laser dentistry may reduce the need for stitches, anesthesia, and minimize bleeding and infection. Damage to surrounding mouth tissues may also be reduced.
Cosmetic Dentistry
You no longer have to suffer with an uneven smile or chipped teeth. Tooth enhancement with veneers or Lumineers means you can have a celebrity smile in just a few visits. While veneers require the dentist to grind down your existing teeth, take molds and fit you with temporary teeth for a few weeks until your new ones are ready, Lumineers are a thinner style that fit right over your natural teeth.
Cosmetic tooth whitening has become popular and affordable, with quick in-office whitening procedures or convenient take home trays. Cosmetic whitening can lighten your teeth drastically in a few simple procedures.
Botox in Dentistry
Why go to two different places when you can get a tooth repaired and erase frown lines at the same time? Some dentists now offer Botox for skin rejuvenation along with dental procedures. Although getting Botox at your dentist is by no means commonplace, it's just another example of how dentistry is changing with the times.

Periodontists Use Laser to Replace Pain With Comfort

There was a time when a dentist's referral to a periodontist sparked fear and trepidation in the minds of many patients.
However, laser therapy for gum disease has transformed a once lengthy, painful, multi-appointment procedure into a single painless, non-surgical visit.
Periodontists have offered laser therapy for 10 years, but the recent purchase of a new dental laser is changing the face of periodontal disease treatment for the practices.
A Pain-Free Option
What likely will appeal most to patients is the fact that this treatment no longer is invasive.
The traditional gum disease treatment method involved cutting into the gums and using a sharp instrument to scrape the plaque calculus off the roots of the teeth. The gums would be sutured after each procedure, and it could take as many as four visits to complete the process on the whole mouth.
The laser has changed all of that.
Fear and the time involvement are traditionally what people have dreaded about this procedure. But gone are the days of multiple visits and noisy, painful gum-scraping. The laser provides simple, effective, painless treatment.
Importance of Oral Health
Periodontists are hopeful that as the word spreads about pain-free laser treatment, more patients will stop prolonging treatment for gum disease.
It becomes about more than just having healthy teeth and gum's. Ten years of research has shown the close link between dental health and systemic health in people.
Much of what occurs in the mouth is indicative of what may be going on elsewhere in the body.
Oral infections cause severe bone loss and tooth loss and act as a risk factor for cardiovascular disease, including heart attacks. There also is evidence that oral inflammation can induce pre-term, low birth-weight deliveries in pregnant women.
Patients with diabetes should monitor their oral health, as infections may complicate managing blood sugar.
You cannot separate oral health from the rest of the body. Patients should not be fooled into thinking they are in good oral health just because they aren't in pain. Routine dental exams by a periodontal specialist frequently catch problems before they become painful.

Pain Free Dental Anesthesia

Bonita Del Rey dental care is now using a new computerized anesthesia system called STA or Single Tooth Anesthesia.

The STA system releases a precise amount of anesthesia throughout your dental procedure to insure no pain either from the injections or the work your dentist is doing. Only the area worked on is numbed!

The STA needle doesn’t even look like a syringe! The tiny needle is significantly smaller than traditional dental needles (it looks like a wand or pen with a small needle at the end) and eliminates the typical numbness and often embarrassing drooling that you normally experience from a trip to the dentist.
